The Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions will feature an exciting new format when play takes place at the Bali International Convention Centre, The Westin Resort, Nusa Dua as the climax of the 2010 season.
Instead of the round-robin format used during the 2009 event, players will now have just one opportunity to advance to the semi-finals in an all-or-nothing knockout. Only the top eight players who have captured at least one International Series tournament during the year and who are not participating in singles at the year-end Sony Ericsson Championships - Doha 2010 will qualify for the event. The tournament may have an option to award players wildcards into the tournament.
Play will take place from Thursday 4th until Sunday 7th November with two matches a day. The first two days will see the eight players reduced to four for Saturday’s semi-finals, and Sunday will feature not only the final but a play-off for third and fourth place.
So far this season there have been three players join the Road To Bali by winning International Series events in New Zealand and Australia. Yanina Wickmayer, who competed in Bali in the 2009 Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions, won in Auckland, Kim Clijsters took the trophy in Brisbane and Alona Bondarenko staked her claim with victory in Hobart.
