YANINA WICKMAYER WITHDRAWAL
06 Nov 2009 | English, Road To Bali

Following the withdrawal of Yanina Wickmayer from the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions, WTA Tour Chairman and CEO Stacey Allaster stated:
"As reported this morning, the Flemish Doping Tribunal has informed Yanina Wickmayer that effective immediately they are suspending her from competition due to three filing failures under the Belgian anti-doping whereabouts programme. With this information Yanina herself has voluntarily withdrawn from the tournament and as a matter of policy the tour will not make comment on an ongoing tennis anti-doping matter."

"Yanina can appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport."

Wickmayer’s place will be taken by tournament alternate Vera Dushevina, who will play Anabel Medina Garrigues in the last match on Friday. However, she will not inherit Wickmayer’s 1-0 record in the Group.

Kimiko Date Krumm will advance to the semi-finals from Group C, as even if Garrigues beats Dushevina to match Date Krumm’s 1-1 win/loss record, Date Krumm will advance having a head-to-head win/loss record over Garrigues at this event.

20 - I really hate my country and my country is YES, Belgium! Or Flanders... This is not human and Wickmayer never took doping! She only did not applied her whereabouts and that's ridicilous! POOR POOR FLANDERS!

19 - sad You probably do not know that the Flemish government (Belgium) only applies these ridiculous rules of whereabouts (in other countries only players in the top 50 need to do so) And the Walloon government (other part of Belgium) does not even ask for those.... No whereabouts at all! Not even in the UK, USA,.... Beginning of the year Yanina was not even in the top 50. I hope they will fight and that they will get all the support needed! ps: look at Gasquet (France) - he was positive on cocaine test and Sarkozy made him play back after a few weeks! I am really very upset about this stupid Flemish system! Sabine

18 - ddd & beaubien, just to be clear, she did not take any doping!
She 'just' didn't fill in her whereabouts 3 times in the last 18 months (due to technical difficulties with the login system, according to Nina).
NO DOPING, just administration problems. She didn't miss any doping tests, nor did she fail any. She wasn't involved in doping!

17 - it's so unfair ... she did not take any doping ... I hope she will come back (poor Malisse, his career is over at 29!)

16 - Sadness, sad shame, angry
and sorrow crying for a young, talented and upranking player to be involved in doping. HOW? WHY?
I hope this was an innocent mistake.
